Families in Mexico and Central America often do not have clean water to drink or use for household needs. Many families rely on pilas and/or water filters to obtain clean water.

A pila is, in essence, a concrete basin (typically located outdoors) that can be used to collect water, wash clothing, wash dishes, bathe or flush a toilet. It is made of 4” concrete block with plaster and skim coating to prevent water from seeping out. This is often the only source of water for families. Any drop of water they use or drink comes out of the pila. Water filters are also vitally important to provide families with fresh, clean water that is safe to drink.

Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters (Isaiah 55:1a); Like cold water to a weary soul, so is good news from a distant land. (Proverbs 25:25)
