Ten Years in the Rearview Mirror

Ten years later, El Salvador still tugs at their hearts! The Discover Program, a joint ministry between Prairie Bible College and Camino Global (then CAM International), required Bible School students to fulfill a practicum in cross-cultural missions ... to experience the challenges of language barriers, new cultural norms and a broad spectrum of leadership theory and Christian expression.

Students partnered with a church plant in El Salvador, meeting local church leaders, assisting with women's Bible studies, kids programs, community outreach activities, youth events and church services. This was putting theory into practice.

Reunited this summer after ten years, Discover Alumni shared how God's global impact shaped their lives from the original heart-call that caused them to choose "the road less travelled ... that made all the difference." (Robert Frost)

Mark said, "We originally gathered for a true purpose and it is pretty cool to see that after 10 years things are happening [in El Salvador] that we have been part of."

Discover Alumni were keen to contribute in a practical way to these "family" members with whom they had championed the faith side by side a decade earlier.

Annnabel prays that the church in El Salvador "knows we still want to support them even though we aren't there with them."

Together, this small alumni army contributed $7000 to assist Pastor Hernandez and his congregation build a second floor onto their meeting place so that their expanding vision for a neighbourhood ripe with economic challenges and crime might become a haven of protection and provision, boldly calling people to the health and wisdom of God's Truth.

Praise God for the impact of cross-cultural ministry that connects the one with the other, heart-to-heart.
