The week of Convocation 2012 was nothing short of momentous.

We began the week by reviewing the history of our mission, considering God’s faithfulness. We were reminded of our beginning — how C.I. Scofield, ministering in Dallas, Texas, felt God moving him to organize missionaries for the spread of the gospel in Latin-America, and sent the McConnells directly to Costa Rica. We marveled again how the sending of the McConnells was the Lord’s response to the prayers of Mrs. Ross and Mrs. Lang, wives of coffee plantation owners in Costa Rica, who had asked God to send missionaries to that country.

Convocation invited us to reflect on our present opportunities — how the impetus for change is inherent with each new season of serving the Lord. As we set out in this new season as Camino Global, our values as a mission remain the same. But in this era of globalization, our vision for enacting those values must grow to meet the new challenges of a changing world. We were invited to share “that old, old story” in fresh, new ways, that meet people where they are. Plus, we were encouraged to keep finding ways to walk beside our Latin-American brothers and sisters as they also “go into all the world and make disciples.”

And Convocation beckoned us to look to the future. Douglas Livingston officially assumed his role as the new president of Camino Global on Thursday, July 19, when the Board of Directors affirmed him, laid hands on him, and prayed over him. On Friday, Douglas addressed the Camino family, calling us to what lies ahead. He asked for our prayers. He invited the Camino family to be a people of grace, to say ‘yes’ to new ideas, and to share the dreams that God has laid on our hearts.

Finally, Convocation afforded the Camino family a chance to reconnect. Friends who haven’t seen each other for years shared a knowing laugh, an understanding ear, and words of encouragement. Many met new friends, and heard about the Lord’s work across the world.

Convocation 2012 brought Camino Global to summit — so that, by God’s grace, we can move forward with a greater sense of unity, vision, and excitement for the road that lies ahead.
